| Im am installing mandrake linux 9.2 and it constintly freexes durning the install. Or if it does go through the graphical inerface is up but the only app on it is the terminal. I have a tyan s1684 with a p2 256 mb ram 3 gig harddrive with a 40 gig slave sony cd burner I have a 76 gig harddrive laying around should i use that instead of the 3 gig |

That being said, you should be able to get a nice system on that size disk if you pick what to install. If you don't need any servers (web, mail, proxy, etc...) then don't install them. If you don't need half a dozen mail clients/readers then don't install all of them.
