| It is funny that the harddrake utility of Mandrake wont recognize the worlds best 56k h/w modem. The utility lists it as Unknown under a question mark. The modem is propely identified as 56K FaxModem Model 5610 On the details page it shows: Vendor: US Robotics/3COM Bus: PCI Bus Identification: 12b9:1008:12b9:aa Location on the bus: 0:9:0 Description: 56K FaxModem Model 5610 Media class: COMMUNICATION_SERIAL Where the configure button for this? Why isn't set up automatically? |

Telebit has remained rock solid, but the consumer grade modems from USR^H^H^H 3Com have been fairly poor since the Sportster. Note that most popular modems now are also Winmodems, meaning they have offloaded a bunch of their processing to the CPU instead of being on the modem, which saves the modem maker money but means you do require the drivers for it. |

But I can't find them for sale in Boston. |
