| Ok I know the problem and solution but I am not sure how to implement the solution. The problem is Mandrake 10.1ce recognizes my Epia VIA C3 processor as a 686 compatible which is isn't enough. So I need to install the i586 kernel. I found this bit on an Epia forum: from http://radagast.bglug.ca/epia/epia_h....html#Mandrake Quote:
/mnt then I go to console... enter: chroot /mnt (whch moves root: to the /mnt directory) Now I am stuck because in this state xstart doedsn't work and urpmi (which I think is right it seemed the only thing I fould googe that matched Mdk Soft Inst. Tool) it takes the entry of just 'kernel' as all ok (yep, a kernel is there all right!), and entering 'kernel-i586' ends in it wanting disc 3 in hda3 but does not seem to like me putting disk 3 in the CD drive. What should I be entering after chroot, or am I going in the wrong direction? Systems stats, 1 HD with a windows then Linux Partitions, DVD ROM as main CD drive and DVD RW as secxondary. I recall there was an old trick one to do in 9.0 to remove the i686 files before install was finished... Found it; at the set root password prompt (during install): Ctl+Alt+F2, you will see terminal 2 cd /mnt/lib rm -rf /mnt/lib/i686 Ctrl+Alt+F7 Finish tasks... Anyone know if this still works for 10.1??? |

Urpmi is a high level tool that checks for dependency conditions. > ok (yep, a kernel is there all right!), and entering 'kernel-i586' ends > in it wanting disc 3 in hda3 but does not seem to like me putting disk > 3 in the CD drive. > > What should I be entering after chroot, or am I going in the wrong You should be seeking out the rpm with the name you gave (or close to it) on your cds and installing it with rpm -i. Or indeed with urpmi if you have urpm configured to look at your cds. Locate your rpm first! Peter |
