How do you set up ARTS to play MP3s?

How do you set up ARTS to play MP3s?

Hi,

I'm having trouble playing MP3s through ARTS applications such as kjuk and
artsplay. The sound is choppy and broken up and pretty unusable.

By contrast:
- WAV files play fine through ARTS applications.
- Applications such as real player play MP3s just fine.

So, I'm assuming that somehow ARTS isn't configured correctly to play MP3s.
Any suggestions as to what I should be looking at? Do I need to install a
separate MP3 player? Googling didn't seem turn anything up.

I'm using Debian Sarge with KDE 3.2.3.
