| ["Followup-To:" header set to comp.os.linux.hardware.] On Sun, 13 Jun 2004 20:32:16 +0100, FRED staggered into the Black Sun and said: > i have installed e-smith 5.6 on my Tosh Tecra 8100 What is this "e-smith"? Never heard of it. Which major distro is it based on? > Is it a big job to get my Xircom Realport2 PCMCIA NIC working? If the kernel and PCMCIA services are reasonably up to date, it should be easy. Start the PCMCIA service with a command like /etc/init.d/pcmcia start . Plug the card in. If you hear 2 high beeps, the card was recognized and you can do "dhcpcd eth0" or "ifconfig eth0 X.Y.Z.W up" for dynamic or static IP allocation. If you hear a high beep and a low beep, the card wasn't recognized and the first thing you should do is to update your kernel and PCMCIA services to the latest available versions. There's a PCMCIA HOWTO at http://tlpd.org/ that you should read. -- Matt G|There is no Darkness in Eternity/But only Light too dim for us to see Brainbench MVP for Linux Admin / mail: TRAP + SPAN don't belong http://www.brainbench.com / Hire me! -----------------------------/ http://crow202.dyndns.org/~mhgraham/resume |
