Default Knoppix

Let me start off getting my feet wet with a post from another ng,
ie..........
**************************************
I didn't do worth a damn with Knoppix and I can't bother this group for
help.

There is a pot full of ng's for Linux. Can any of you Linux users recommend
one for me?

I got a boot, system check and then ascending blue lines until a ctrl, alt,
esc stopped it. Then a, what I assume, is their carrot. I remembered
somewhere man man, typed that and got the manual and never got out of it. I
found no demos or programs of any kind. Exit, quit, escape, gotohell,
nothing worked.

This ng was recommended. Anyone have a clue from the above what is wrong?

Makes me think it is a troll post and think about not bothering with
reading the rest of it.

When in doubt, use
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search
knoppix in the first box, pick english language,
to see where the most responses are.

Just blue lines or did they have text.

On my knoppix ver 2.2 cd, I get a pretty screen, a boot prompt, with a text
line telling me to hit F2 for arguments to boot.

Yep, that aborted whatever was happing and dropped you to the console
prompt.

> I remembered somewhere man man,

That fired up the maunal reading program _man_, 1'st man, and you
indicated you wanted to read up on how to use the _man_, 2'nd man,
program.

Usually entering a q will get you out of the paging program,
called by man, while reading a MANual page.

Well if it can detect your vidio hardware, knoppix will launch a gui
desktoop which any usere should be able to use.

linux/unix is case sensitive so, exit, will logout of a
terminal/shell if you are in one. Since you aborted what was running
and was dropped to a system prompt, I would guess shutdown -h now
would shutdown linux.

Please read http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Without knowing what hardware you are running on, version of cd,
_exactly_ what you entered, and _exactly_ what messages are printed
out, I do not have a clue.

Hey, that's OK. I thought I would try Linux. Believe me, I don't need it.
Didn't work anyway.

This just confirms my suspicion that all Linux users are self-centered and
arrogant.

My XP pro works just fine and I'll muddle along with Billy Gates.
