| I had problems to boot from the harddisk (debian 2.2.20 ) and I still have after installing a newer kernel (2.4.18). I have to boot from Floppy with still the kernel 2.2.20 on it what can I do? when the pc was installing the kernel it say the this: A master boot record is required to run the partition boot record However, you do not seem to have /boot/mbr.b, provided by the Debian package mbr. I hope that your master boot record or boot manager does boot the active partition. If not, you have to acquire the package mbr and install it. ( And I tryed this to install but Debian says that it is already installed) lilo -v: LILO version 22.6.1, Copyright (C) 1992-1998 Werner Almesberger Development beyond version 21 Copyright (C) 1999-2004 John Coffman Released 17-Nov-2004, and compiled at 14:06:34 on Dec 1 2004 Debian GNU/Linux Warning: LBA32 addressing assumed Warning: COMPACT may conflict with LBA32 on some systems Reading boot sector from /dev/hda3 Using MENU secondary loader Calling map_insert_data Boot image: /vmlinuz -> boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-386 Mapping RAM disk /initrd.img -> /boot/initrd.img-2.4.18-386 Added Linux * Writing boot sector. /boot/boot.0303 exists - no boot sector backup copy made. debian:/home/gonzyyyy# uname -r 2.2.20-idepci debian:/home/gonzyyyy# mc lilo.conf: boot=/dev/hda3 root=/dev/hda3 compact install=/boot/boot.b map=/boot/map vga=normal delay=20 image=/vmlinuz label = Linux read-only initrd=/initrd.img -------- |
