Default Mandrake 9.2 install problems from HD

Toshiba Libretto 110 notebook, 64 MB RAM, 60 GB HD, Pentium 233 MMX.
Want to get Mandrake 9.2 installed from the raw tree.

Downloaded the Mandrake 9.2 raw tree to a 10 GB ext3 partition on my HD
(using a gFtp from a Mandrake 9.0 installation on the same HD).
Next, booting from a floppy made of HD.IMG and pointing the installer to
the raw tree partition, it says:

"The Mandrake Linux Distribution seems to be copied on a Windows
partition. You need more memory to perform an installation from
a Windows partition. Another solution is to copy the Mandrake
Linux Distribution on a Linux partition."

Now what. It _is_ on a Linux partition.

(fdisk output from MD9.0 below. /dev/hda14 is the partition containing
the raw tree)

AFAIK I've downloaded the mdkinst etc. stuff in binary mode.

What do I need to do to persuade (or force) the Mandrake 9.2
installation program to install from the raw tree stuff on the same HD?
Or can I upgrade through the running Mandrake 9.0?

TIA,

Philip

(NB 1. Actually I've downloaded the entire raw tree much earlier (long
before the ISO images came out), just recently copied only the RPMS
stuff to this HD and renewed all the rest incl. mdkinstl etc. etc.)
(NB 2. The Libretto may not have much RAM, but once installed from ISO
#1 MD 9.2 ran quite well, especially after disabling devfs.)
