That's... fairly behiind the times. How much RAM do you have, and how did you install it in the first place? |

Can you post the results of "fdisk -l"? Your machine might have an old BIOS where the boot partition must be located in the first 8 gigabytes or even the first 540 megabytes of the hard drive. -- Depend on the rabbit's foot if you will, but remember, it didn't help the rabbit. -- R.E. (i can not use it becouse I cannot boot the linux debian) when using "fdisk -l" with the fdisk of Dos it says: "parameter format not correct" But if it is what you said: "boot partition must be located in the first 540 megabytes of the hard drive" Can that be the problem of the LILO or GRUB problem? and what Must I do to fix this? |

That's... fairly behiind the times. The issue is whether the PC has the EDD bios extensions needed to support "lba32" (with LILO). Without the EDD bios, "lba32" cannot be supported. In this case, there must be a /boot partition located below the 1024 cylinder limit. The LILO standalone diagnostic disk #1 may be used to check for EDD bios support: http://lilo.go.dyndns.org/pub/linux/lilo/boot --John How much RAM do you have, >and how did you install it in the first place? > |

That only mattered if your / partition (the one with /boot on it) went past cylinder 1023 (namely, if it wasn't the first partition of a drive of more than 8 Gigabytes or so). |
