| I just started experimenting with uml. My existing system ( the host ? ) is still running RedHat 7.2 with the latest kernel from RedHat for that release ( 2.4.20-7 ) plus MPPE from pptp-linux. Started with the last UML RPM kernel, and with tom brt root fs. What I wanted to do now is experiment with: 1) A kernel with FreeSWAN built-in This seems to be straightforward as the latest 2.4 kernels from: http://kernels.usermodelinux.org/kernels/ .... shows some of them with FreeSWAN included. So I assume I would just need to replace the existing /usr/bin/linux with the one from the above website, or just name the binary differently ( e.g.: linux-2.4.21 ) 2) Experiment / try-out 2.5 / 2.6-test kernels Again, there is a 2.5 kernel from uml's website. But how do I try out the latest 2.6-test kernels ? Can I just take the last 2.5 kernel from uml's website, run UML, then apply the the all the patches up to 2.6.0-testx ( given that 2.6 already have uml built-in ) on the UML kernel... given that 2.6 already have uml built-in ? 3) Are the root filesystems related to the UML kernel ? e.g. Do I have to use specific root filesystems to make use of the UML kernels or vice-versa ? |
