| OK, I am admittedly in over my head here. See, I am using Outlook Express to post to newsgroups so you gotta know I had to use Windows to do that. How can I access newsgropes using Kubuntu? I am guessing it will mean I should install Thunderbird but maybe someone else has better luck with a special Kubuntu friendly program? Humbly, thanks in advance. Doug |

Try firing up 'knode' from the next xterm/kvt, it might be already installed and just what you are looking for? Presuming you want some GUI nntp reader. M$-Outcrap is by far the worst nntp reader one could think of. There are plenty good nntp reader for Linux available, 'pan' is another GUI reader. Check our weekly stats to see what others use. TB (Thunderbird) is a great MUA, but only a basic nntp reader from what I saw. Many use CLI newsreader, as those offer usually the most flexibility and are of course lightning fast. ;-) Good luck -- Michael Heiming (X-PGP-Sig > GPG-Key ID: EDD27B94) mail: echo zvpunry@urvzvat.qr | perl -pe 'y/a-z/n-za-m/' #bofh excuse 135: You put the disk in upside down. |

Then back to installing stuff on my new OS. ( I already learned about OS from learning XP so now I can transport at least that to this conversation) Doug |

Then back to installing stuff Presuming you mean linguistic: GUI == graphical user interface CLI == command line interface MUA == mail user agent Seems our new reader FAQ might be a good start, scroll down a bit and look for the post: A new reader? Welcome to comp.os.linux.setup, read this first if you're new here (FAQ) The jargon file might have even more info: http://catb.org/jargon/html/index.html Though I have to admit, never read it at all... > on my new OS. ( I already learned about OS from learning XP so now I can > transport at least that to this conversation) Still don't know if you could start 'knode' at all, seems not from your headers. But I dunno why, if it is not installed or you just didn't found it? I see there is even some icon on my box in the "K" menu under "Internet" for it. But this is very distro dependent, so using some xterm/kvt or alike to start should be the most portable. Personally don't use most GUI menus to start some app, it takes to long to find and I have to know where/which icon to look after. -- Michael Heiming (X-PGP-Sig > GPG-Key ID: EDD27B94) mail: echo zvpunry@urvzvat.qr | perl -pe 'y/a-z/n-za-m/' #bofh excuse 375: Root name servers corrupted. |

Actually I am using OE, on my XP, to access NG. > Personally don't use most GUI menus to start some app, it takes > to long to find and I have to know where/which icon to look > after. Whenever I call India for support, they always tell me to "Click on the icon" so I mostly use GUI. Doug |
