| Please Help!!! We have just re-installed Linux Enterprise over an old installation and there is no c compiler available. We tried to install gcc but it needs a c++ compiler available for it to install. Can anyone offer any assistance? Please refrain from advice at this stage, I just need to get this up and running - My option is to find the c compiler or re-install the basic Linux installation. Thanks |

That's your C++ choice. |

Stop uttering falsehoods. The gcc RPM should be available on your instlal media: I believe that RHEL uses yum to manage packages, and you should be able to point that at a Centos FTP mirror to get relevant binary packages. |

If you are running RHEL, you have access to Red Hat's services, so there should be no need to go to Centos or anywhere else. On both RHEL 3 and RHEL 4, the entire compilation system is available on the distribution media, and updates will come automatically unless you prevent up2date from running. On RHEL 3, most (perhaps all) of the compilation stuff is on CD-ROM 3. On RHEL 4, most (perhaps all) of the compilation stuff is on CD-ROM 3. -- .~. Installing a C compiler is a five second job for the rest of the universe. "The necessary install packages" are the rpms of the C compiler and build toolchain and they are ON YOUR INSTALL MEDIUM AND EVERYWHERE ELSE YOU LOOK. There is nothing to "rebuild". Peter |
