| Subject: Regarding RAID5 with MegaRAID Lines: 16 Date: Fri, 12 Dec 2003 22:49:34 GMT NNTP-Posting-Host: 69.34.89.106 X-Complaints-To: abuse@earthlink.net X-Trace: newsread1.news.pas.earthlink.net 1071269374 69.34.89.106 (Fri, 12 Dec 2003 14:49:34 PST) NNTP-Posting-Date: Fri, 12 Dec 2003 14:49:34 PST Xref: intern1.nntp.aus1.giganews.com comp.os.linux.setup:450997 In case anyone is curious, I found that using five drives instead of six (making the sixth a hot spare) produces greatly improved performance. With write back caching and cached I/O enabled, I get a write speed of about 75MB/sec (as measured by how long it took to copy a 1.7GB file that was in the read buffer of another drive already), and a read speed of over 150MB/sec (as measured by unmounting and remounting to the file system to clear buffers, then reading it with a quick program made for the task). -- - Mike Remove 'spambegone.net' and reverse to send e-mail. |
