Default Partition mix up

Hello,

Newbie here,

I copied an ex3 partition to a new disk using "cp -ax"
and it all works ok. Then I inserted a partition
so that my device /mnt/hda5 is now called /mnt/hda6.
I could move/re-install everything, but I prefer to keep
it as it is for now and I was wondering
if there was some short cut way of telling Linux in some
configuration file to treat
/mnt/hda6 as /mnt/hda5 and vice versa
before it boots up.

Thanks.

My standard procedure is:
change fstab
change lilo.conf
lilo -v
reboot

.... "before" it boots up, as in a dynamic sort of way?
or just a one-time shot? for the one-time shot, edit
the /etc/fstab file
..
