Default power switch won't boot up?

I have the following strange behaviour on my NF7-S motherboard with an Antec
case, Mandrake 9.2. Most of the time when I turn on the computer with the
front case power-on switch the fans, HD and CDROM start up, but the machine
won't boot until I hit the reset switch.

However, if I turn off the power supply at the rear main switch, turn it
back on again and then hit the front panel power switch it DOES boot
without using the reset switch. I have checked the wiring of my switches to
the MB and they seem fine.

Any ideas why?

Two quick thoughts. First check jumper settings on motherboard. Don't know
about this one, but sometimes there are jumpers for various power options.
Same thing with BIOS. Check those settings, particularly concerning power
management.

It might depend upon how it is being powered down. If it is shutting
down, but not powering down automatically and the front switch is used to
turn it off, that might be just putting it into suspend/standby mode.
Then it comes back up in its last state (after shutdown) doing nothing.

In that case, holding the switch for 5 seconds or more will usually turn
it off completely. Whatever the case it is likely related to power
management settings or jumpers and method of power down.
