| When using apt-get install mysql-server, I get the following errors: Preconfiguring packages Use of uninitialized value in join or string at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/DbDriver/Stack.pm line 83, <GEN1> line 2. Use of uninitialized value in substitution (s///) at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/Format/822.pm line 72. Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/Format/822.pm line 73. Selecting previously deselected packag mysql-server. (Reading database ...) Unpacking mysql-server (from .../mysql-server_4.0.18-5_i386.deb) ... Setting up mysql-server ... Use of uninitialized value in join or string at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/DbDriver/Stack.pm line 83, <GEN1> line 2. Stopping MySQL database server: mysqld. ATTENTION: An error has occured. If you did not force dependencies (while installing another, previous package) in some way, then it seems as if mysql package is broken: Either buggy post-install script or buggy dependency info. I would have investigated from the most recent package upgrade to backwards. AFAIK it may also happen if debconf or another aspect of system, which is used in the post-install script, gets broken for whatever reason.
