| I have a pentium-d processor in my computer at work and I want to compile a custom kernel for it. the only problem is that I want to get the best performence out of it but I don't know which processor to configure to kernel for. there isn't a pentium-d option and I don't know which processor it's most closely related to without becoming incompatable. I havn't been able to find any docs on this anywere. if somebody knows the optimal setting for my processor I would be quite gratefull to know. thanks! |

So you would want to use Pentium 4 and enable SMP so that the kernel can use both the processors. If you're running and x86_64 distro you'll want to use em64t as the processor type. |
