| Hi, I am trying to find out if RedHat 7.3 supports Ultra ATA/100 hard drives (like in the Dell Dimension 1100). I also need to know if support for this drive is contained in the distributed kernel (out of the box) or if a kernel upgrade is required. Can someone please point me to a URL that would inform me of this? Thanks, Don |

I *think* it does, at least it is very likely. But I was more curious why you want to use such outdated version. Fedora Core 5 was released recently if you want something from Redhat, or if FC5 is too big download try Mepis or (K)Ubuntu. -- Now Playing Snog - Empires |

Maybe he *has* cds for RH7.3, and no convenient way of getting the equivalent for another version. -- "If you want to post a followup via groups.google.com, don't use the broken "Reply" link at the bottom of the article. Epson and HP and the other printer standard always keep their's alive to backfit but the newest printers can never have the latest features. Why would you expect a release older than the drive to support the drive? Forward compatibility is a lick and a promise. All of this "stuck with a distribution" stuff is Microsoft thinking. That is what MS wants so they can charge for service packs and their collaborators can charge hapless MS users for obvious drivers. -- Innocent photographs cannot defend themselves from malicious captioning. -- The Iron Webmaster, 3609 nizkor http://www.giwersworld.org/nizkook/nizkook.phtml Old Testament http://www.giwersworld.org/bible/ot.phtml a6 |

RH7.3 is old and out-of-date in terms of features and stability. You would do yourself a major disservice by using it if you don't have to. Download or give cheapbytes their $5 and buy the CDs. (or whatever the price is now). That is not the problem. Millions still user Windows 95. The problem is that the security updates have never been applied and do not exist. Ie, that machine is wide open to attacks. So my conclusion is the same-- get a newer version! >-- >bill davidsen > SBC/Prodigy Yorktown Heights NY data center > http://newsgroups.news.prodigy.com |
