| I have a network of computers, mainly Windows XP, attached to a Linux server running Red Hat and Samba. I have an application that installs a client service on PC's remotely and then activates them for data capture. For this purpose I have created a Domain Administrator level account. The application (Visual Audit Pro) successfully installs the client, but when trying to pertform the audit, returns error 86 ($56), "the specified network password is not correct." The domain name, account and password _are_ correct. I can use the account and password to attach any shared drive on the network to my computer. Does anyone have any clue as to where I go from here? |

| I'm not familiar with Linux, but is it possible the number of digits in the password, may not be meeting the design criteria? | I have made some progress here. I have ensured that the Windows Firewall has been turned off (we have an external firewall, so the Windows one is redundant). I have also successfully audited 3 machines by using the machine name as the domain and using the machine's administrator logon. So, in effect, I am bypassing the Linux server and running it peer-to-peer. I am still having problems with other machines, but VisionSoft are investigating that for me. |
