| Hi, After upgrading our client to win2k pro, I'm suddenly too stupid to set up Samba correctly on my Debian box. Is there a good site that would talk about the differences with setting up the server for w2k and win98, and also (especially) about whatever new quirks there are to know about this client? -- Juha Siltala |

Did you upgrade from NT4 or from WinX? I think, W9x sends passwords uncoded, W2k sends encoded as standard. If your samba used to receive unscrambled pw, you need to tell your client to send so. (administration / security settings / local security settings / ...) good luck Karl |

Networking works, but the client finds no host except itself in the Neighborhood. The workgroup is called "workgroup" on both sides. Seems like there's some truth to the rumors that win2k broke Samba somehow more generally, and registry tweaks are required, as well as maybe setting up the server differently than what I'm used to in the past (i.e. very easily getting it to work with Webmin). > Did you upgrade from NT4 or from WinX? I've always used encrypted passwords, I think 98 required this as well. I've tried unencrypted passwords as well, with no luck. I'm a very lousy Windows admin, and it's not very well documented either -- Juha Siltala |

This made Webmin settings even weirder than usual config on your file. -- Juha Siltala |
