Default sendmail/postfix configuration

Hi all,

I run MDK 9.2 with KDE 3.1. KMail 1.5.3, Sendmail 8.12.9 & Postfix 2.0.13.

I want to use sendmail to send mails but i keep coming up with a problem
when sending. This is a snippet from the returned mail in /var/spool/mail:

#################################################

The Postfix program

<user@destination.tld>: host smtp.destination.tld[ <ip address >] said: 553
<sender@host.domain.tld>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found (in
reply to RCPT TO command)

#################################################

and then later:

#################################################

Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0
Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; host smtp.destination.tld[<ip address>] said:
553 <sender@host.domain.tld>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found (in
reply to RCPT TO command)

#################################################

I've set the hostname of my PC to correspond to the domain of my ISP. I was
able to send a mail to a hotmail account but it gets bounced from an SMTP
client.

I've looked in man and had a look at some web resources but to honest I
don't even know where to start. Do I edit main.cf in /etc/postfix or
sendmail.cf in /etc/mail? And what do I need to look at? There are so
many configuration options it's baffling.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

P.

You have to decide which MTA you are going to run, Postfix or
Sendmail, not both.

If you pick postfix
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search
sender_canonical bittwistr in the first box
*linux* in the Newsgroup, pick English

When you get the results, Click Sort by date, right side.

Told you I was baffled! Disabled the postfix service and everything seems
to work now.

I'm assuming I can uninstall postfix unless it's needed for something else?
If the answer is in the affirmative, don't trouble to reply.

Thanks BT.

This will probably add to your troubles and if everythings working then
there's no need to change but I've always found Postfix much easier to
setup than Sendmail. Everyone's opinion on this is different of course :-)

Postfix and Sendmail do essentially the same job so yes, you can uninstall
Postfix. Just thought I'd add that as I was replying anyway :-)

This doesn't turn up any results. I'm assuming "bittwistr" is a typo, but I
tried both anyway.

And I'm assuming "the first box" is where it says:

"Find messages - with all of the words"

However, "bittwistr" and "bittwister" in "Author" gave no results either.

frap, you are correct, sorry. Here, a new and improved write up
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search
sender_canonical bittwister in the first box <=====
*kde* in the Newsgroup, pick English <=====
