| I'm in windows 2000 at the moment, but generally use Fedora, FC4, linux. In windows skype works fine but this isn't the case in fedora. >From fedora I can generally hear the test call, but the mic never works. Sometimes skype will give an error, saying that there's a problem with the soundcard. The mainboard is a k7som+ with built-in mic and headphone jacks. In linux, XMMS plays Ogg and MP3 files fine, so at least the headphone/speaker jack works. I'm going to look into some FOSS for linux to test the mic from linux, but I expect that to work (since it works fine under windows). I've double-checked, uninstalled and re-installed skype via yum, and updated it. I do notice that quite often I can't log in to the linux skype app, but have no problem with either the website or the windows skype app, but skype said to make sure the most recent version was installed (which it was). This sounds more like a problem with skype software rather than linux or hardware, yes? The mic is Nexxtech, purchased at radio shack (works fine under windows). -Thufir |

Right-clink on the speaker icon and make sure that "Mute" isn't on. While you're at it, also do Open Volume Control, then Switches, and see if Mic Boost is on. -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan@storm.ca> Google users: To reply to posts, click "show options" next to the poster's name, and then click "Reply" in the line that says: "Reply | Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message" |

The speakers work fine, FWIW. > While you're at it, also do Open Volume Control, then Switches, and see if > Mic Boost is on. ... I'll check out that Mic Boost in particular, thanks (gotta run right now, just wanted to respond, I'm looking into audacity to test the mic, too.) -Thufir |

If you don't see the icon, under the Fedora menu, choose Sound & Video, then Volume Control. -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan@storm.ca> Google users: To reply to posts, click "show options" next to the poster's name, and then click "Reply" in the line that says: "Reply | Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message" |

I'm not able to dial out under linux, I keep getting "call failed," but, by booting into windows, am able to dial out. thanks, Thufir |
