| Hi, I've never faced this before... just installed RH9.0, and, I find that the keyboard response is really slow. It seems to be somthing to do with the way keyboard events are "scanned," because, I see that some of the charaters gets missed out if I type anything at normal speeds. I need to wait for a second or two to see the character being echoed, and, only then should I type in the next character - which is a kind of getting painful. Anybody faced this problem before? Regards, Arvind. |

| Hi, Just want to add that this has nothing to do with the "Keyboard Repeat Rate" settings; they seem to be working fine. Is the system wildly overloaded by something, such as having no RAM to speak of and running HTTP, DNS, NFS, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc., etc., etc? |

| Thanks for your response. The system is not loaded to that extent, and it has 128MB RAM. I have not tried to test this on the console without having X running - but, do you think this makes a big difference? Regards, Arvind. Definitely try that - just to eliminate some possibilities if nothing else (bad or wrong video driver for example). Also you *do* have a swapfile right?. What is the processor and speed of this machine? How is the keyboard connected up? USB maybe? What harware other than internal cdrom/hard/floppy drives, video card, sound card is connected to that machine (including both internally and externally)? -- (setq (chuck nil) car(chuck) ) |

Yes. I haven't gone back to check if I had the rat and keyboard PS/2 plugs backward. Solved it with kbdrate. But running at boot time was not good enough for KDE. I had to run it in terminal window. -- When western nations renounce the right to resistance to foreign occupation they can honestly demand Palestinians do so. -- The Iron Webmaster, 3650 nizkor http://www.giwersworld.org/nizkook/nizkook.phtml Larry Shiff http://www.giwersworld.org/computers/newsagent.phtml a8 |

| Hi, Just want to say that this problem seemed to be solved on its own! Yesterday, I just started my system, and no longer does my keyboard behave as erratic as that. I've really not investigated on what really had happened, but, at the first thought, I think the re-boot did all the trick. Never knew that Linux also needs a reboot for solving problems ;-) Thanks for all your suggestions though; they've atleast enlightened me on what I should check before I send out an SOS.
