| On a small network(company), with mostly windows machines is it possible for a debian system to through off that network. I know it is silly, kind of on the lines of I broke the internet, but just checking, I am not used to debian systems. We have had strange activity, post-debian install, the only thing that might be the culprit is I installed a DNS-server(which I know I didnt) or this application(dhclient-2.2.x) is not syncing properly with the cisco router? Here are my netstats, I dont think I am running anything dangerous. tcp 0 0 *:www *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:24374 *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 * LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:mysql *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 * LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:1025 *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:linuxconf *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:finger *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:auth *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:smtp *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:ftp *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:telnet *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:time *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:daytime *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:discard *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:1024 *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:sunrpc *:* LISTEN |

I am not really the (windows)network-admin, but I always get the "hmm, I bet that linux system(the debian system I setup) is throwing off the network", and I dont know exactly, but completely random machines not being able to get the correct dhcp addresses(when rebooting. I kind of said, well maybe there is something in the 2.4.20 tcp/ip stack(ECN problems?) that might not be syncing correctly. The debian machine works fine(at least to me) and connects to the network and picks up a valid dhcp address. shrug? |
