| Hi, Obviously I'm a new user of linux. Here's what I did: I wanted to remove mysql, so I opened yumex and filtered on "sql". I then deselected all that appeared (slated for uninstall). The OS did as I requested and it now appears that any thing that used a database is now gone from my computer. I can no longer access RPM or YUM, so I can' t install RPM or YUM (nice paradox). I am sure it is not a path issue. I searched my machine (locate command) for rpm and could not find the executable anywhere. What I need to know is how can I reinstall RPM and/or YUM (YUM relies on RPM, no?) My OS is Fedora Core 4. Any help very much appreciated!! |

Or, may be you don't have to burn it, but this is an untested stunt: Mount the rescue cd iso somewhere using the -o loop option to mount. Then use the mount --bind option to make the root file system appear again under e.g. /mnt/sysimage on the rescue cd. Then chroot to the rescue cd, and run rpm. -Enrique |

FYI: The first Installation CD has this rescue image already on it, just type 'linux rescue' sans the quotes at the menu screen to use it. -- "A personal computer is called a personal computer because it's yours, Anything that runs on that computer, you should have control over." Please tell me that you have another system lying around that you can put "rpm2cpio" on, then use it to extract the key binaries and libraries for RPM and install them on your damaged machine. Or seriously consider doing a clean install on top of it with the installation CD's. |
