| Hello, I run an OS/2 installation on the first partition (primary) of my second hard disk. After OS/2 installation I had removed the OS/2 boot manager since I had installed it only for being able to install OS/2 :-/ Currently I boot OS/2 using LILO (Linux is my primary OS) which is fine. However since GRUB provides some things I would like to have, I gave it a try. My OS/2 section in `/boot/grub/menu.lst' looks like this: | title OS/2 Warp 4.0 | rootnoverify (hd1,0) | savedefault | makeactive | chainloader +1 This does not work. Neither did anything else I tried (I even installed LILO with only the OS/2 entry into some partition's boot record). In the above constellation, GRUB just shows me the settings and then nothing happens. The infamous `/boot/chain.os2' does not seem to exist nor is there any hint how to get it, and the GRUB sources only hint that booting OS/2 *should* work. Is there any chance I get this working? I think someone who understands the low level workings of boot sectors and loaders needs to create one and submit it to the Grub developers. I don't think anyone ever did. I couldn't find one anywhere. > Is there any chance I get this working? I tried a long time ago and gave up. ISTR getting a an OS/2 boot from a primary partition, but not a logical. I load the grub partition with BM. Works fine. -- "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom...." Proverbs 9:10 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. I finally fired up my dual-boot machine today and had a look at grub.conf. It has title OS/2 root (hd0,1) makeactive # chainload OS/2 bootloader from the first sector chainloader +1 as the relevant OS/2 entry, on my system this results in the OS/2 boot manager being started which then drops through to OS/2 itself. Obviously this won't work for everyone, change the (hd0,1) as required for where your OS/2 boot partition might be. If you don't know what it is, why do you care where it could or could not be ported to? I suspect you know. Admit it. Peter |
