| Howdy world, I've got an amd64 box with a suse 9.0 distro. Because the standard 2.4.21 kernel of suse didn't work with my sata drives, I got the 2.6.3 kernel. Once I selected the right builtin's and modules, I got the sata drives to work. But I broke the modem and printer! So, what is the difference between the 2.4.x config files and sysconfig files? My first error with ppp for example was that it couldn't find the module. Once I fixed that, pppd reported it could not find /dev/ttyS1. But an hour before I'd used the same system with the 2.4 kernel and the modem (on ttyS1) worked just fine! Seems like there is some major change here and I'll have to rewrite all my config files in /etc. Is there some other module I've forgotten to load that's basic to the kernel for all external devices (like some portion of the file system???) Thanks for any pointers! Patience, persistence, truth, Dr. mike |
