| Hello, My problem started when I tried to install SuSE 9.0 on a Dell PowerEdge server 2300, Yast2 kept saying "no hard disks are found...." The drives are SCSI and SuSE 8.0 recognize them with no problems, in fact I have another server that works just fine with the same h/w. Here is what I found, after digging around on the internet I learened that in SuSE9 the default boot loaded is set to GRUB, and that GRUB fails to identify SCSI drives, on the other hand LILO does, so the advise was to make LILO as the default bootloader! How can I make LILO the default boot loadee when I don't even have anything on the hard drives (i.e. clean install, no new hard disks with no OS). Thanks for your help. mFH |

I installed more than one SuSE 9.0 on a SCSI system. GRUB boots just fine. Your problem is not the boot loader. Tell Yast to load scsi modules during installation. Then it will generate a proper initrd, that will load the needed drivers on boot, may it be lilo or grub. Eggert |

Haven't tried it on 9, but if click on the Booting (??) entry of the main install page (toward the bottom) I think you can select your boot loader of choice. If not, try removing grub from the SW selection and adding just LILO and see if the Booting section now reports that it will use LILO. > > > Thanks for your help. > mFH |
