| I just got a new computer and have run into a few problems with setup. The new machine is an HP a1600a 64 bit dual core using the nvidia 6150 chip set. I expected a few problems with install and I got them. I have problems with the modem, video system and audio. I expected that the new machine would not see the installed modem so I took the modem card out of my old machine and put it in the new. After install the machine sees one modem but it turns out to be the modem that came with the machine. Unfortunatly while the modem shows up it will not work with linux. The modem from the old machine refuses to show up on the new linux install. Both modems show up under windows (dual boot). I have a serial modem but guess what no serial port on the new machine. I was counting on the old card to work. SUSE does not seem to like either the audio or video. I get a no sound card and no video error from yast. I suspect I can overcome the problems with a simple update through yast however I need the modem for yast to update. Any ideas? (other than buying more hardware or another machine) |
