| Hi! I am running RedHat 9.0. My system beep is unpleasantly loud and I would like to set down its volume. Is it possible? I have installed all packages from the three installation CDs, so I have one volume control application up and runing. I mean the one that is launched from Gnome's Start/Sound & Video meny. But this application does not set the system beep's volume. Any suggestions? Thanks, Catalin -- <<<< ================================== >>>> << We are what we repeatedly do. >> << Excellence, therefore, is not an act >> << but a habit. >> <<<< ================================== >>>> |

Is it possible? > Try 'man xset' I tried that. On my system (DELL Latitude D800) that command doesn't work properly. I guess it's a limitation of my sound card. Anyways, xset sould accept three parameters, the volume loudness (in %s of max volume), the frequency of the sound and the duration of the sound. On my system the first and last parameters both affect the duration of the sound. So I can change the pitch of the system beep and its duration, but not it's loudness (volume). That's a pity. Thanks for your replay.
