Default system-config-packages versus Fedora Core 5

Hi all,

I have the same problem as others not being able to "Add/Remove
Programs" from the CD images, without any Internet access and
without copying everything on the harddisk. I am aware pirut cannot
do this because yum doesn't either (more precisely it does not
handle changing CDs). I suppose the things would be better with
a DVD, but I only have the CDs and no DVD drive.

I tried to install and use system-config-packages from Fedora Core 4,
but it doesn't work at all. Some problems seem to be:

(1) It expects the CDs to be mounted as "/media/cdrom", but CD #1 is
automatically mounted as "/media/disk", the others as
"/media/FC_5 something". Don't know how to make them to mount
where they are expected to, plus I guess this variable mount point
may create problems when changing CDs. As an interim solutiuon I
mounted them manually.

(2) Seems it looks for "RedHat/RPMS/", but on CDs the names is
"Fedora/RPMS/". I guess it's easy to fix this by modifying the
Python sources.

(3) It expects to find some files that are in fact missing. One is a
harddisk copy on "comps.xlm"; I suppose this file is the one on
the CDs and only needs to be copied to the appropriate directory.
Another is "hdlist", which does not exist on the CDs and I don't
know how to create one. I coudn't get past this one, so don't know
if there are other missing files too.

(4) When logged as root, CDs are not mounted automatically (I chose
Gnome as shell, if important). I didn't arrive far enough with the
install for this to matter, but I suspect it will create problems
when changing CDs.

So, my questions:

- Are the changes in Fedora Core 4->5 so deep that
system-config-packages has no chances to work?

- Did anyone manage to patch system-config-packages for
Fedora Core 5? Or has an idea what needs to be done?

TIA,
sags
