In the release notes of some of the latest Tomcat 5.0.x versions (e.g.
5.0.28), it says Redhat Linux 9.0 users should set:

export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5

but in previous paragraph it also said "...Sun JDK 1.4 does not
exhibit the problem".

I am unsure if I need the export or not?

.... you think you wouldnt, but i've been working with
fairly current versions of IBM db2 and websphere and
you HAVE to have it set to run the installers and
some of the other java stuff
