It takes about 4 CD's for all of these for FC4. Binary ISO's contain the actual OS installers, and the RPM packages for the actual software. Ot tales abpit 4 CD's for all of these for FC4. These are the standard installation media. Binary DVD's stuff the while binary, or binary and source, on a single DVD image. These are almost identical to the CD's, but you don't have to do any swapping and it's easier to build a kickstart network setup from these. But not as many people have DVD burners or hardware that will boot from DVD. Does that make sense? |

I am sort of familiar with SUSE 9.3. Currently fighting wireless card issue w/SUSE and driver w/NDISWRAPPER. I may just try the linuxant version and pay the $20 bucks if the trial driver works. |

Then it is only between binary which means four CD-ROMs and one DVD. If you can burn DVDs it is less hassle. If not choose the CD-ROMs. -- No American expected to stay in Iraq very long except for those who paid for the construction of "enduring" bases and those hwo authorized paying for them. | Yes I am a pretty simple user! I don't want to get into something where I need to recomplie something. I guess if you get the source files you need to do something first (compiling ?). I have my SUSE 10 running now..still no wifi but wired works fine. And what you didn't ask, FC4 is stable, I've had problems installing FC5 on about half the machines I tried. I believe it involves the ACPI code, but frankly don't have a need to be cutting edge on stable machines. As a new user FC4 *may* be a smoother path to a working system. -- bill davidsen SBC/Prodigy Yorktown Heights NY data center http://newsgroups.news.prodigy.com |

I basically will use this machine for web stuff and email. Nothing fancy. It will be another learning experience. Dave |

Apologies. Generally you want the source files as last hope back up OR you have special patches for them you want to compile into them. The is mostly for installations with a large number of users and specialized applications. You can usually get a 5-10% execution speed increase by compiling it on the machine it runs on so a program has to use up a lot of time you are paying for to make that worthwhile, say a database program with a lot of users so the time saved will add up even if only one second per search. I am sure there are other reasons. If you knew about those reasons you wouldn't be asking the question. I have been through five releases of RH/FC and used one source file once -- which didn't help. I don't bother downloading them at all rather rely upon what is on sourceforge and such for the latest and the occasional legacy version. > I have my SUSE 10 running now..still no wifi but wired works fine. Don't know SUSE but for FC I went to the KDE configuration panel to look around and when I clicked on wireless I was told it was not configured, which is good because I have no wireless devices. But it offered to configure it for me. Always take all the help you can get. > Thanks Dave > "Matt Giwer" <jull43@tampabay.REMover.rr.com> wrote in message > news:KR%3g.3078$9o4.2275@tornado.tampabay.rr.com.. . > >>Dave wrote: >> >>>I want to download a FC4 release.
