| Hi, I just finished installing a Fedora Core 5 distribution on my computer. The problem is that I was unable to install it in graphical mode, so I had to go for the text mode installation. Now I am able to boot into Linux but the X server does not run automatically; and when I try to run it manually by issuing 'X' on bash, the operating system fails to start it (it only ends up showing a screen that is covered with thin and vertically aligned white, green and yellow stripes, with an inch by inch square box instead of the mouse pointer). Has anyone else run into a similar situation and found a problem? My goal is that X run automatically when the system boots and that I be able to use the GUI features that are part of KDE or GNOME to make life easier, since I am using Linux for the first time. Here's my hardware configuration (as recorded using Windows installed on a separate hard disk): Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz 2.67GHz, 448MB of RAM Computer: ACPI Uniprocessor PC Disk Drive: Samsung SP0822N Display Adapter: ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series DVD/CD-ROM Drives: TSSTcorp CD-R/RW SH-R522C As discovered by Anaconda during Fedora installation: Video Card: ATI Technologies Inc. RC410 [RADEON XPRESS 200] Monitor type: Samsung Syncmaster 793S/793V/CM173G Any help will be appreciated, Tarun |
