| I am trying to connect my Fedora core 2 Thinkpad r40 to a usb network adapter, in this case an adsl modem. According to linux-usb.org I am supposed to see somehting like usb0: register usbnet usb-00:02.0-1.3, Belkin, eTEK, or compatible in my syslogs when I plug it in, I am not sure how to read ny syslogs but I have tried two different ways, dmesg | tail -50 cat /var/log/messages | tail -50 If I am not missinformet they should be similar and do the trick. None of them shows anything at all when I plug the modem in. Hotplug seems to be enabled tho, because when I plug in an mp3 player, a mass storage device, I get a good message with lots of info. Anyone know why this might be the case? The strange thing is that one time I actually managed to get a small message when I pluged it in. The message at that time was usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using address 3 It is not exactly what I was looking for but at least it was a message, I got it just one random time when I was plugging the mp3 player in and out and changing and trying. It is also the same message as I get when I plug my camera in if I put it in "ptp" mode instead of mass storage. I am using kernel 2.6.5-1.358 but according to up2date I can upgrade to 2.6.6-1.427 or -1.435. Is any of those likley to solve this issue? Can it be some problem with powersuply? There is no external power to the modem, it is only the usb and phonelines. The modem works well in windows though. The modem is called Topcom Webr@cer 851 pstn. Any ideas would be much appreciated. I managed to get it once more right now. When I get this message the lights on the modem also comes on. Normally they don't. But if I recall correctly they dont come on in windows either, at least not before it is configured. Is it possible to somehow probe the usbport? Or is there some equivalent to fstab where I should ad stuff? I am completley lost here so anything would be good. Tim |
