| I've had so much trouble with the following, I thought I'd reply to my own post with the solution in case anyone else finds it useful. Obviously, to disable the auto detection of VertRefresh you need to set: Option "IgnoreEDID" "1" for the nvidia driver in XF86Config. Since this was an nvidia option and not an xfree86 one, it was difficult to find the solution. Octessence. --- I have just installed SuSE 9.0 on my new PC as Mandrake had trouble with all my new hardware. Everything worked fine except xfree86 would not work. I discovered that the VertRefresh in XF86Config was detected to be 44-75Hz, however my monitor is specified at 50-75Hz. This is probably because I use a kvm system to use two PCs from one monitor, keyboard and mouse and it sits in between the PC and the monitor. When I changed the refresh rate to what it should be, everything worked fine. The problem I have now is that every time I reboot, something is changing my XF86Config and putting the VertRefresh back to 44-75Hz. The only way I can get into kde is booting to init level 3 and editing XF86Config before doing startx. I have got a workaround for this by changing the permissions on XF86Config to 444 but I'd like to know what could be changing it? Octessence |
