However, my power supply vendor claim the power supply's power factor is 0.95 (Enermax EG851AX-VH(W)FM) and efficiency exceeds 75% (just checked with the manufacturer, but the spec also saids 70%). It employs "active power factor correction" whatever that is. http://www.enermaxusa.com/catalog/pr...products_id=68 There are some complaints about this unit on some web sites, with failure either immediately (DOA) and two failing within two years. Mine has been in use 24/7 since early March 2004 and no trouble so far. They claim 100,000 MTBF for the things which is possible if the fans hold up. But I am only one data point. -- .~. I do not know how much the UPS draws, since I do not know its efficiency. If it is honestly rated, I cat get 2200 VA or 1600 watts out of it (whichever is less). While it is doing that, it must take a trifle to trickle-charge the battery, and a few watts to run the cooling fan if it is on, and whatever power the electronics inside (which cannot be much). Now if it is trying to quickly charge the battery, it must take the however much it takes to recharge the battery as well as run the computer system. I do not know what the efficiency of the thing is, but it cannot be too bad. The internal cooling fan is temperature-controlled and normally runs only after a power failure or on extremely hot (>90F) days. -- .~. There is a (possibly urban) legend about a housing project that was being built in California where the bulder had imported solar collectors from Australia to be installed on all the roof-tops. The sub-contractor faithfully followed the instructions to install the collectors on the "house's most northerly facing roof section."
