| OS: White Box Enterprise Linux 3.0 Respin 2 x386 March 2005 release. Machine: IBM ThinkCentre M Series 2.8 GHz, 256MB RAM, IDE 40GB HD. Error message: Error enabling swap device hda: Invalid argument. This most likely means this swap partition has not been initialized. Press OK to reboot your system. Since White Box Enterprise Linux 3.0 Respin 2 x386 is a clone of Redhat Enterprise Linux 3.0, I assume the solution described below would apply to redhat as well. Solution: I replaced the IDE hard drive. I tried using disk druid instead of autopartition. It didn't solve the problem. | ADDENDUM For those who do not have a spare drive, another solution might be to level the hard drive/w a tool such as MaxBlast (free tool from Maxtor). Version 4 can be found at, http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Ma...&downloadID=57 I have found that when disk druid and MS-fdisk have failed to manage/modify the partitions correctly, MaxBlast has solved the problem. Concerning the new drive, I allowed WBEL3 to use the entire drive (autopartition), and it created a swap partition. > > -- > "I deleted a file from my PC last week and I have just realized that I > need it. You're so clever and mysterious Mr. Iglou. No, disk druid chose the entire drive, and it didn't matter whether I manually partitioned (which I did, and disk druid allowed me to save and continue), or auto (I did). Anaconda produced the above error in both intances. Since the (first) drive was taken from a Windows box, I assume there was something within the drive's boot or FAT sectors that disk druid didn't know how to handle. I don't recall what was on the second drive (may have been FBSD), but it worked fine. LB |
