| Ok, I have been to the Wine home page and done research, but I still am stuck... have been playing with WINE, and it does not seem to work well - if at all - at least not based on what I can find out about it. First, I am using it on the SLAX KillBill distro, so perhaps some of this comes from the beta nature of KillBill? But when I try to run almost any program with Wine, it simply starts to launch and then quits with no error message. Here are just some of the programs I tried (with full command to see if I goofed somewhere... and commentary after... ): wine /mnt/disc0part1/windows/sol.exe - yes, but so poorly it cannot be used wine /mnt/disc0part1/windows/pbrush.exe - no - no errors wine /mnt/disc0part1/windows/notepad.exe - yes wine /mnt/disc0part1/windows/winfile.exe - no - lists errors wine /mnt/disc0part1/windows/winfile.exe - no - lists errors wine /mnt/disc0part1/windows/ping.exe - no - lists errors wine /mnt/disc0part1/quickenw/qw.exe - no - lists errors wine /mnt/disc0part1/windows/Desktop/Michael/TextShield.exe - no, lists errors wine /mnt/disc0part1/ExamView2/evplay.exe - yes, but with visual errors wine /mnt/disc0part1/ExamView2/evpro.exe - yes, but with visual errors wine /mnt/disc0part1/ttwin/ttwin.exe - opened a typing tutor! wine /mnt/disc0part1/Office52/program/soffice.exe - yes I did try a few of those with a shortcut I assumed would work (it did the same thing). The shortcut was to right click on the program in question, select Open With, and then have it open with Wine. I assume that is the same thing, but since the manual / FAQ's do not suggest it, I tried all of the above as written... As far as the ones listed above where I say it lists errors, the errors were the lists of DLL's that the program needed... Any help with this would be greatly appreciated... -- Picture of a tuna milkshake: http://snipurl.com/bh6q Feel free to ask for the recipe. _________________________________________ Usenet Zone Free Binaries Usenet Server More than 120,000 groups Unlimited download http://www.usenetzone.com to open account |

Tell us, how will you do a good working wine install with LiveCDs? After all, that is all you have used of linux so far, if at all. I suspect that you did not even try most of those you claimed to have tried Until then, continue to troll in cola and csma -- There are no stupid questions, but there are a lot of inquisitive idiots. |

As I said, above: First, I am using it on the SLAX KillBill distro, so perhaps some of this comes from the beta nature of KillBill? If you had asked or checked, or perhaps even just thought about the name, you would have realized that the KillBill distro comes with Wine. > After all, that is all you have used of linux so far, if at all. You really want to run that garbage? -- The cost of living hasn't affected its popularity. |

You really want to run that garbage? How sad you feel the need to troll and flame others. Do not worry, at least for now I forgive you.
