Default Floppy type?

Can an ordinary PC floppy drive be installed on a SPARC like my Ultra 1?
I found info on using non-Sun cdrom drives, and got that working, now I'd
like to install a floppy too if I can use a PC or Mac drive. However, the
hardware faq I have has nothing in the floppy section.

The Ultra 1 needs a floppy drive with motorized eject function
and without a face-plate.
All the PCI based Ultras (5,10,30,60 etc) take PC-type floppy
drives, with eject buttons.

Take care,

I have a Sony MPF920-F floppy, so I was hopeful it would work. It doesn't,
unfortunately.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi ... I had the smae problem. What floppy cable are you using?
I was trying a PC floppy cable connecting it like a PC (pin 1 to pin 1 and
following the notch).
This did not work for me - I thought my floppy was bad. Then, one kind
reader suggested that
I should turn the cable around. Pin 1 to pin 50 ... and magic happened ...
it worked.
Yes, it was for an Ultra 1

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try when I get a chance, and
report the results.

Didn't work for me. The drive light stayed on constantly, which is what
typically happens on a PC when the drive ribbon cable is backwards.

Paul,

That was the behavior I had when my PC floppy cable was connected like I
would in a PC. Turning it around ... and it then worked.

I have a couple of floppies. If you give me your mailing address, I would
have no problems mailing you one (coming from Canada).

When you get it ... just drop me a letter with monies to cover the postage.

Cheers
