| I just got my HD, a Seagate Barracuda 9LP. So far, probe-scsi-all anbd probe-scsi fails to detect any drive at all. Are there any special jumper settings I need to enable in order to get this drive to work with my Ultra-2? The stock Sun 2.1GB that came with the ultra-2 works fine and is detected by probe-scsi OK. So far, the only thing I can conclude is that this drive should work with the ultra-2 and is DOA. Does probe-scsi require the drive to be low-level formatted in order to properly detect the drives? Or, could the drive not be detected because my ofw version is 3.1.5? |

On the disk, set a jumper 'force single-ended'! -- Michael Tosch IT Specialist HP Managed Services Germany Phone: +49 2407 575 313 Mail: michael.tosch:hp.com |

I assume the jumper is called "SS" (3rd pin from the right) on J2. I'll try it out in a couple of minutes here... |

I'll try it out in a couple of minutes here... I did some searching through the Seagate docs, and they said to put a jumper across the first set of pins on J2 called "LVD". Unfortunately, those pins are labelled "NU" or "not used", so it looks like I can't force single-ended operation on this model. Well, I'll give it a try anyways, and if that doesn't work, I'll try to uprade my OFW. |

According to http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/scsi/st39173wc.html (Installation Guide) the jumper LVD on J2 needs to be set. -- Michael Tosch IT Specialist HP Managed Services Germany Phone: +49 2407 575 313 Mail: michael.tosch:hp.com |

I just checked on my particular model. There is no "LVD" jumper, unfortunately. Some models have a "SE" jumper whereas others have "LVD" jumpers. My model just says "NU", for "not used". |
