Default Quick monitor/frame buffer question

Hi all,

I have a Sun Blade 1000 with an XVR-1000 frame buffer in it. I'm
considering buying one of Sun's 24.1" LCD monitors (option number
X7197A); would I be correct in thinking that the XVR-1000's DVI
output will drive the monitor's DVI-D input with no problems?
(I know I could use the 13W3 connector but it would sure be nice
to use DVI if possible.)

Just wanted a quick sanity check before I plonk down my hard-earned
cash!

TIA,

I was under the impression that only the 13W3 output of the XVR-1000
could be used as console -- at least that that was the case a couple
years ago when work snagged about four of them through a matching-grant
program. There isn't one on my ultra2 so I can't test for you right
now. You might want to ask Barbie if she's tried it.

I think you're correct, at least until X starts running. If that's the
case, that's OK. I don't reboot my workstations very often. :-)

No idea, but guessing by the 1000:1 contrast ration, I think it might
be th epremium one.

Nope. You just have to disconnect the 13W3, and it will autodetect
the DVI port and switch there during bootup. Make sure the DVI
monitor is powered up, however, since if it sees nothing, it wll
drop baack to the 13W3.

The XVR-1000 was developed to work with the original Sun 24.1 inch flatpanel.
Unless they've added a newer resolution, use SUNW_DIG_1280x1024x60.

You'll probably also need:

fbconfig -active b
fbconfig -stream b -port dvid

Then logout/restart X/CDE to rethink the config files.

The XVR-1000 is designed to work together with the Sun 24" display.
It will work out of the box and should be configured to 1920x1200x60
digital.
It will also display the OBP over the DVI, unlike the XVR-100 which can
not do so.

I have seen things you lusers would not believe.
I've seen Sun monitors on fire off the side of the multimedia lab.
I've seen NTU lights glitter in the dark near the Mail Gate.
All these things will be lost in time, like the root partition last
week.
Time to die.

Excellent! I was hoping you'd chime in... :-)

Now all I need to do is wait for the quotes to come back and
get the rubber stamp of approval from the Bugetary Committee
(aka Jenny, my wife)...
