Default LOM port on a Sunfire V100

How do I connect to this from another PC?

What sort of cable do I need? Network cable or crossover?

I've got serial 9pin convertor which I can plug into serial port of PC.
Tried using hyperterm on COM1 but no joy....

Am I missing something?

The cable should be a crossover, and your settings should be 8-N-1,
9600 should work fine. If you have other machines around, test on
those so you can determine if your setup works with other boxes. I
always forget how flow control needs to be set, but try them and save
your config when it works

Crossover? I always get confused - is this 'normal' RJ45 network lead?

If you have the DE-9F to RJ-45 adapter that Sun supplies (530-3100-xx)
you just use a standard straight through network cable. If you need the
pinouts to make one of these I have them at work. Hyperterminal works
fine for me in this application.

.... and if not, you need a rollover (not crossover) cable, like the one for
Cisco console ports.
