You do not need a service plan to access Security patches. That message (perhaps the only one) from Sun has been consistent. While I've heard that access to non-security patches may be restricted to service plan subscriptions, it doesn't seem to have happened yet. The patches page of sunsolve takes me right there.... http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/pdow...ecommended.zip http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/pdow...ecommended.zip -- Darren Dunham ddunham@taos.com Senior Technical Consultant TAOS http://www.taos.com/ Got some Dr Pepper? Despite the hype and confusion I don't think even Sun have ever said this although their message has not been exactly clear, and approximately 1 billion newsgroup posters *have* said this. What you do need is a sunsolve login (or whatever it is now called), but such a login does not need to be associated with a contract / subscription. --tim |

I am able to download the security and kernel patches, but not the patch-clusters. When I try the http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/pdow...ecommended.zip link, I get a page like : Registered users, please sign in! You have selected an update which is available to registered SunSolve users with a valid Sun Service Plan. In order to download this update you need to sign in to access SunSolve. If you are a new user to SunSolve, you can register today if you have a Sun Support contract number or a Solaris 10 Entitlement Token. If you are a new user of Solaris 10, you can get access to all Solaris 10 updates with purchase of a Sun Service Plan. |

Of those two links, the x86 is 206.6MB and the SPARC is 229.5MB. I'm logged in with my personal account that has no service plan associated with it. I can't even search for non-public documents in the document area. I just double-checked the "Contracts and Licenses" link and there are no contracts associated with my login. ??? -- Darren Dunham ddunham@taos.com Senior Technical Consultant TAOS http://www.taos.com/ Got some Dr Pepper? I am able to download the security and kernel patches, but not the patch-clusters. I cannot download 10 cluster anything with my non paid for login id... At least not from the above link. A paid for ID does work fine. Impressive It wouldnt surprise me a bit if some people can and some cant given Suns abysmal handling of sunsolve/service plan issues over the past nearly 2 years now. The recent post from the "business owner" didnt inspire a whole lot of confidence that things are going to get better soon - if ever with that lot running things. O - stay tuned - 8 and 9 patches are about to go non free too. I can hardly wait to see the results of that change (not). Isnt it odd that service goes down the tubes when they start to charge for it?? And they just cant seem to sort it out..? |

Thanks to a suggestion I discovered an update script that automagically pulls down patches individually to achieve the same effect as a patch cluster. Check archives for this newsgroup for recent postings from me and you'll be able to chase the link. Steve |

I had that problem with a VERY OLD account. I registered a new account and I can download all patches and clusters fine. (no service plan) |
