| I have got an old SB 150 at home but, alas, without RAM, so I'll need to get some. However, the Sun System Handbook only says: ,---- | Four DIMM slots, PC133 168-pin JEDEC DIMMs | 128-, 256-, and 512-MB DIMMs; DIMMs can be mixed and matched | 2-GB maximum (with four 512-MB DIMMs), error correction SDRAM `---- which could be taken to mean that /in principle/ all ECC PC133 SD-RAM DIMMs up to 512MB should work, but I remember that the SB 1[05]0 systems really were quite particular about RAM. Does anyone on this NG know if - CL2 is required? - or else, if not required, will CL2 RAMs actually driven at that timing if installed? (i.e. will CL2 be faster or just a waste of bucks?) - unregistered RAM is right (I would think so, it's a /workstation/ after all...) - there are any other important contraints to be aware of? It should be atleast CL3, if its faster it should not cause a problem. But PLS be aware that memorys are identified by a small memory on the DIMM which the Openboot/BIOS reads and must recognise. So having the latest Openboot could be important! Also, the Sun is abit kinky on the DRAM since PC133 only specifies a maximum of three DIMMs on a single memory bus, Sun has pushed that in order to have 2GB 4 psc. so not all DIMM may work fine. /michael |
